Blog 7: Tasmania - Leven Canyon to Zeehan
You can't see it all. Plus this is a holiday (vacation to our American friends), as well as an adventure. Our breackneck headlong rush around, through, over and past all the things has attenuated in to a more thorough exploration of (most of) the places we go, and comfort in the fact that you can't possibly see it all - especially when you meet some travellers who are on their third visit to Tasmania and their thirteenth cumulative week of exploring the island. And they still

Blog 6: Tasmania - Devonport to Leven Canyon
Using the sneaky 'post date' time machine to make it look like this was posted on Sunday, here is an update on our Adventure. Tasmania is beautiful. Steal-your-heart make-you-want-to-live-here beautiful. Mountains, rivers, forests, animals, the sky, the weather, the whisky, the produce, the people, the winding roads, the closeness of everything to everything else. Perhaps the slowing down after our breakneck speed across the Nullarbor is partly to blame. But this clean air an

Bonus Blog: All About Gary the Land Rover
So accidentally leaving the laptop in Gary during the Spirit of Tasmania crossing meant I didn’t get to type this up until now – sitting on the banks of the Mersey River in the Mole Creek Karst National Park. A much nicer environment, and it means you get pictures to match the words. Specification: Gary is a 2003 Land Rover Discovery Series 2a with a 2.5L Td5 Turbo Diesel Engine, ZF Automatic Transmission. He has the updated transfer case with a lockable centre differential (

Blog 5: South Australia & Victoria – Barmera to Melbourne
Too far, too fast. A little too expensive. The nation is rushing by at breakneck speed. We did five single night camps in a week and were left exhausted after lots of driving without seeing very much. If we weren’t constrained by the availability of the ferry to Tasmania, we would pace our adventure much better. Over the past couple of days in Melbourne we have been talking a lot about how we would like to attenuate our travel style when we get to Tasmania on Monday. More on

Blog 4: South Australia - Elliston to Balmera
It’s hot. It’s HOT! Some might say stinking hot. Some might say unbearably hot. Some might say it's the Australian Summer. Most of yesterday afternoon we kept driving and gained a day on our rough South Australia to Melbourne schedule because at 4 pm it was still 44 degrees outside (That's 111 Farenheit for our Imperial Units readers) as we drove through Morgan. Gary even needed a rest after a particularly long winding ascent in the Clare valley because 108 degrees is the max

Blog 3: Western Australia & South Australia - Esperance to Elliston
Preamble: Sorry this one is a day late, but the internet in Elliston really sucks. We wrote this yesterday, so at least the writing time is consistent. Priorities! Here is the Map first this time. Since last post we have travelled 1 715 km, all the way across The Nullarbor. After you last heard from us, we escaped the crowds, hustle and bustle of Esperance (pop. 9 919) to journey towards more National Parks, and hopefully a bit of solitude (a big ask over the Christmas / New
